ABSTRACT

We report a case of enteric fever in a 5-year-old child due to Salmonella typhi resistant to chloramphenicol and cotrimoxazole, successfully treated with ampicillin. The infection was most probably contracted in India. Clinicians and microbiologists in Saudi Arabia are advised to look out for cases of enteric fever due to multi-resistant strains of Salmonella typhi in nationals from the Indian subcontinent and from tourists returning from that part of the world
